Matthew Schaefer is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is a defenceman for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected first overall by the Islanders in the 2025 NHL entry draft, and won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's best rookie in 2025–26.
